Wohngeld Application in Essen — How to Fill It Out

Personal Information

In the first part of the application, provide your personal details: name, date of birth, address, nationality and marital status. Enter all data completely and exactly as in your ID card or passport. If you are married or in a marriage-like partnership, both partners must be listed — even if only one is applying.

Income Information

Here you must declare the total income of all household members. This includes: gross income from employment, pensions, child benefit, maintenance payments, rental and lease income, and interest income. Certain income is not counted, for example: parental allowance (up to 300 euros), basic pension and certain social benefits. Provide proof of all income.

Rent Information

Enter the monthly net rent (rent excluding heating and hot water) and the advance payment for utilities. The information must match your rental agreement or the last utility bill. Special information is required for subletting arrangements.

Household Information

List all persons who permanently live in your apartment. This is usually yourself, your spouse or partner, your children and possibly other relatives. For each person, name, date of birth and relationship to the applicant are required. Students, BAföG recipients and persons receiving Bürgergeld do not count as part of the household eligible for Wohngeld.

Tips for Completing the Application

• Fill out the application completely — do not leave any fields blank. Enter a dash for information that does not apply.
• Use a ballpoint pen or fountain pen — pencil entries are not accepted.
• Sign the application at all marked places. Without a signature, the application is invalid.
• Include all required proofs as originals or certified copies. Simple copies are not always sufficient.
• Before submitting, make a complete copy of the entire application for your own records.

4. Submit Your Application

Submit the completed application together with all supporting documents to the Wohngeld office in Essen. You can submit the application in person, by mail or — if available — online. Keep a copy of the application for your records.
